ARES 2018 Simulated Emergency Test

The West Desert Amateur Radio Club under the direction of Tooele County Emergency Management plans to conduct a simulated emergency test (SET) involving all registered amateur radio operators in Tooele County at 9am on Saturday, November 10, 2018.

The registration period for this exercise closed on Saturday, November 3rd. Everyone who registered has been sent a Liability Release Form which needs to be signed and returned in order to receive an assignment.

The SET scenario is a prolonged, overnight windstorm with winds in excess of 70mph. Such a windstorm, which isn't all that uncommon in Tooele County, would cause downed trees and power lines, road obstructions, and serious damage to vehicles and buildings.

A postcard has been sent to all amateur radio operators who have a Tooele County address in the FCC call sign database inviting them to participate in the SET, regardless of club affiliation.

All license classes, Technician, General, Advanced, and Amateur Extra are eligible to participate. All amateur radio operators were invited to register on this web page on the West Desert Amateur Radio Club (http://westdesertarc.org/) website. Those who registered will be given an assignment to accomplish during the SET and asked to report on their assignments over the air using the Tooele County linked repeater system.

Questions and Answers

During this exercise, is there a dialogue of what we say or do we check in and tell you "all is fine"?

Answer:
We'll send you a specific assignment which may read something like: Proceed to the Settlement Canyon Elementary School located at 935 Timpie Rd, Tooele, UT. Note any issues or situations that need to be reported while going to the school. At the school note any issues with the building and surrounding area that would impact the ability to use the school as an information or evacuation center. Record all observations on the log sheet and call them in on the radio using the Tooele County linked repeater system. End of Assignment

In addition to the assignment, we'll suggest some issues that you may find due to a windstorm. Beyond that you can use your imagination.
