Time to talk training! There are four FEMA courses that every ARES member need to take. These are all online courses with a test at the end.
These courses are:
- IS-100 Introduction to the Incident Command System,/li>
- IS-200 Basic Incident Command System for Initial Response
- IS-700 An Introduction to the National Incident Management System
- IS-800 National Response Framework, An Introduction
These courses are available on the FEMA training website:

Click on “IS Course List” on the left sidebar and click “View All”. The complete course list will be displayed. Click on a course then click on the link under “Take This Course”. The first time you’ll be asked to create a username and password (write it down!). Each course will take about two hours of time, including the final exam.
After completing a course and receiving your completion certificate, email me a copy of the certificate to put in your training file.
