West Desert Ametuer Radio Club meeting held April 5, 2023 at the Tooele EOC building at 7:00 p.m.

Conducting the meeting was President Roland Smith.

Pledge of Allegiance was led by Roland Smith.

Minutes were read by Secretary Rhona Boutwell. Motion to accept minutes made by Robert Andrews, seconded by Gene May. Minutes accepted by the club.

Treasurer’s report given by Treasurer Kent Thygerson. Motion to accept report made by Robert Andrews, seconded by Gene May. Report accepted by the club.

Announcements:
Blue Peak High School had 10 students pass for their technicians license in March. The school has the launch of their high altitude balloon coming up on May 13, 2023.
April 20, 2023 will be the Great Utah Shake Out. We will be participating by using the Orion App by doing some test assessments.
In July there will be a drill done with TCEM. We will need HAM operators to assist in this drill.
The Wild Horse Race will be re-evaluated to see if it is still able to be conducted.
Stupid Pony Race will be held in the fall. We will need operators to assist in it.
Field Day will be June 24 and 25 2023. We will be at Settlers Park and we need club members to help plan for the event.

Presentation for the evening was given by President Roland Smith. He showed the club how to navigate on Orion and make assessments.

March Minutes

West Desert Amatuer Radio Club was held on March 1st 2023.  It was held at the Tooele EOC at 7:00 p.m.

Conducting the meeting was President Roland Smith.

Minutes were read by Secretary Rhona Boutwell.  Motion to accept was made by Norm Burraston and seconded by Robert Andrews.  Minutes were accepted by the club.

The Treasurer’s report was given by Roland Smith.   Motion to accept the report was made by Robert Andrews and seconded by Glen Murray.  Motion approved by the club.

Request for reimbursements to Roland Smith for Corporate License Renewal.  The amount is $10.00.  Motion to approve reimbursement was made by Robert Andrews and seconded by John Gamble.  Approved by the club.

Roland Smith gave a report on the results of the Simplex Test.  

Discussion on the Dell Reporter issues and the impact to the Ride the Wild Horse race.

Tech exam to be held at the Blue Peak High School.

For March Elmers Night Scott Murdock will demonstrate APRS.  It will be done over Zoom Meeting.

April 20 will be the Great Utah Shake Out.  We will be participating by using the Orion App.

April Meeting will be a refresher on the Orion program.

Presentation for the night is on Echolink.   Blake Hutchison has been able to set up a link (KF6ELU-Lima) to participate in the net through Echolink.  The link will be open 15 minutes before and 10 minutes after the net.  If you would like to participate in the net through his link you MUST email with your call sign to Blake to be allowed into the link.  His email is KF6ELU@IAS.CC.

February 2023 Minutes

West Desert Ametuer Radio Club was held February 1, 2023 at 7:00 p.m. Class was held in the command center of the EOC.

Motion for payment Domain Name renewal. $17.95 to reimburse Roland Smith for the cost. Motion to reimburse Roland Smith made by Roland Andrews, seconded by Rex Carr and accepted by the club.

Elmers Night on February 15 will be a Simplex Radio Test

Club presentation was working on ICS 100.

January 2023 Minutes

West Desert Ametuer Radio Club meeting held January 4, 2023  at the Tooele EOC building.

Meeting began at 7:00 p.m. with President Roland Smith conducting.  Pledge was led by President Roland Smith.

Introduction of club members.

Minutes were given by Secretary Rhona Boutwell.  Motion to accept made by Rex Carr.  Seconded by Scott Murdock.  Minutes approved by the club.

Treasurer’s report was not given as there was no treasurer.  During elections there was a tie for the future treasurer and both candidates declined the position.  Kent Thygerson volunteered for the position.  Club accepted Kent Thygerson to be the treasurer.

Presentation was given by Tyler Griffith N7UWX.  His presentation was about Winlink Express and Global radio. 

Elmers night will be on January 18 at the EOC at 7 p.m.  We will have a demonstration on using Winlink.

Ray Riding will be doing embroidered shirts again with call sign and club sign for those interested. He is also working on having hats available.
The presidency is working on grants with ARRL. We are looking into ways of getting the youth involved.
We are wanting to change banks. The current institution isn’t working with accessibility of banking times for members of the presidency. Request to change the bank of club account. Motion to approve made by Robert Andrews, seconded by Tyler Willson approved by the club.

Dennis Tracy gave information about Wreaths Across America.

Roland Smith delivered the report for the severe weather exercise that was conducted on December 30.
Covid 19 vaccines will be available through the county to the club. As a radio club we are considered first responders and able to get the vaccine early for those that want it.

Tyler Willson did a presentation of plans for the upcoming year.

Roland Smith delivered instructions on how to vote for the incoming presidency.
Information was given about a winter weather reporting drill.

Presentation and activities for the Election/Christmas party.
Activities included slide shows of 20 plus members ham shacks.
Drawings were held for different prizes that were given to numerous members of the meeting.
Prizes were given to one of the individuals that showed their Ham shacks.

Dennis Tracy gave information about Wreaths Across America. On December 19 he will go to all cemetaries in Tooele County to place a wreath in honor of those that have served in the military. He will also be broadcasting over the radio as he travels.

October 10 Test. The test worked good and there are updates.

Meeting was called to order by President Robert Andrews at 7:00 p.m.

Membership dues are now needing to be renewed.

We had no one available for information about the progress of the mesh network.

Roland Smith’s announcements:

We need nominations for candidates for the club board.

There is the SET drill to be held Saturday October 10, 2020 at 10 a.m. You will need to sign on to the website. You won’t get an assignment unless you sign up.

There will be a copy of the bylaws of the club sent to all members over email. There is a proposal to change the wording on some of the bylaws. Members need to look over the proposals and we will vote on the changes in November.
Elections will be held in December at the club holiday dinner. Club will be held on Saturday December 5, 2020 to allow those out of Tooele city to be able to attend.

Roland Smith presented about Radio information channels on Youtube.

Minutes of the WDARC September Meeting

Minutes of the West Desert Amateur Radio club held September 2, 2020. The meeting was a hybrid meeting with some member in person attendance and others over Zoom. Meeting started at 7:00 p.m. with President Robert Andrews conducting.

No Pledge of Allegiance was performed.

Treasurer’s report was given by Mert Russo. Check was issued to renew the registration and upgrade trailer. Glenn Murray motioned to accept. Seconded by Roger Redmond and accepted by the club.

Report on the Mesh network was given by Clint Thompson. He has ordered and received the supplies for the network at the Blue Peak/CLC mesh node.

A committee for nominations for the election is requested. Kacie Stevens has volunteered for the committee.

Roland Smith presented information on the ARRL SET (Simulation Emergency Test) He asked for suggestions of how we can participate in this test. It was suggested Orion test, and cell tower evaluation test

Roland did the presentation on the SDS (Software Defined Radio) Two websites that he talked about were SDRUtah.org and WebSDR.org.

Glenn Murray brought forward information that the FCC is trying to raise the fees for licenses to $50.00.

Minutes of the West Desert Ametuer Radio Club June meeting. Meeting is held on June 3, 2020. Meeting started at 7:00 P.M via Zoom.

Meeting started with Robert Andrews welcoming the group.

No treasury report was available.

Mert Russo provided an update of the Stansbury Pavilion has been reserved for August 8th for the summer picnic.
Hats and stickers should be available next week.

Roland Smith presented his information:
Black Crook repeater may be having some issues. It is not connecting to the repeater. To access the repeater we have to use a helicopter.
Field day is June 27-28. We are planning on going to the Grantsville Reservoir. We are needing to purchase some guy wire and tent stakes for the antennas. Motion to allow purchase was Glenn Murray seconded by Roger Redmond. Motion was accepted by the club.
Brent Marshall, Mayor of Grantsville made a proclamation of the Ham Radio/Emergency Communication Day for the city
We are needing to have people to assist working on the trailer at Norm Burraston’s house to work on the trailer on June 4, 2020.

No update on the Mesh Network for this meeting.
